Apprentice Materials Technician

Role Responsibility

The post holder will be required to participate in the formal apprenticeship scheme which will include attendance at an appropriate college course.

  • To undertake a range of tasks suited to the current level of training and development
  • To attend college and complete course work on time and to a high standard
  • To take on additional responsibility in Years 2 and 3 of apprenticeship
  • To understand and complete all work-related activities on time
  • To understand and comply with policies and procedures other than HSE
  • To attend and fully participate in regular training, career and development reviews with line management, college staff, and other interested parties
  • To undertake additional duties in line with capabilities as required
  • Carry out in-situ and laboratory testing for concrete, bituminous material, aggregates, and soils on civil engineering construction site.
  • Ensure laboratory/work area is kept in a tidy and safe condition at all times and report any broken or damaged equipment to the Senior Member
  • Training will be provided to ensure testing is completed to the relevant standard in accordance with UKAS schedule.
  • Flexibility to work on different sections

The post holder will be expected to keep a work diary outlining their training progress throughout the course of the apprenticeship. This diary will be formally reviewed on a periodic basis with an appropriate line manager and/or representative of the appropriate apprenticeship awarding body.

Ability to work as part of a team, attend team meetings, eventually contribute to appropriate discussions, written and verbal. Additionally, a flexible approach, able to work towards understood objectives and deadlines and self motivated towards becoming part of what is a continuous learning environment. 

About the Company

The role will work on the HS2 project. HS2 is the UK’s new high-speed rail network. It will be a catalyst for economic growth across Britain, freeing up space on the existing railways and connecting 8 out of the UK’s 10 biggest cities with fast, reliable and frequent high-speed services The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 Main Civils Contracts which include both Lots S1 (Euston Tunnels & Approaches) and S2 (Northolt Tunnels). Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
